Hubby and I went to Sam's club to do some grocery and add more stuffs for our food storage. We bought more stocks of canned goods and other food supplies including rice but to our surprised there was not any rice available at Sam's Club. Then we decided to go to Wal-Mart and try if they have any specially those 20 lbs bags of Jasmine rice and still they don't have it. There were 2 bags of 10 lbs Jasmine Rice but it was not the kind that we usually buy so we just bought one of those thinking that maybe we could go to the other Wal Mart branch. So, we went there but never found any. Dang! what a bummer. What's going on? We have heard that there is rice shortage worldwide but didn't take it seriously to buy and store more rice until just today since it's hubby's days off from work. My goodness that is scary! Though I still have three 5 lbs of Jasmime rice plus the 10 lbs bag that we just bought today but I don't know how long will it last until we could get more.
Hubby has been taking it seriously to stock more for our food storage. This is not a joke, everybody has to prepare and store food incase of situations like this. Just think about it, gas prices have soared higher and higher and a lot of truckers who transport foods and other products to different stores have complained about it. Price of rice has also doubled because of the shortage which they say due to restrictions on exports by major rice producers, notably India, Vietnam and Egypt, followed by Brazil, causing imbalance in world markets.
I just hope that Jasmine rice will be available soon and that rice shortage problem will be solved. By the way, Jasmine rice is the best rice that I discovered when I came here in the US. i have tried a lot of different rice but only Jasmine taste better almost like the ones I used to have back in the Philippines.
